In a proactive anti-narcotics operation, Prakasam district police conducted inspections at Ongole Railway Station and onboard express trains on Saturday night, recovering 7 kilograms of ganja and arresting five suspects.
The operation involved a special team, including CI Sudhakar of Women Police Station, Sub-Inspectors, Eagle Team, and personnel with sniffer dog Roxy. Officers inspected train compartments, railway premises, and parcel centres to curb the illegal transport of narcotics.
During checks on the Alappuzha Express between Ongole and Singarayakonda, the suspects were identified as:
Sarvam Layya (24) – Jharkhand
Sharavan Layya (31) – Jharkhand
Mantu Manjhi (29) – Jharkhand
Prakash Mirdha (28) – Jharkhand
Miskarma Gaurav (22) – Bihar
All five were handed over to the GRP police for further investigation.
Officials emphasized that such operations aim to prevent the illegal transportation of ganja and other narcotics and maintain public safety during railway transit.
