The Ernakulam unit of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) arrested Pradeepan N., an assistant engineer at Kerala State Electricity Board’s Thevara division, on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of RS90,000.
The arrest took place near a bus stop at Thevara around 6 p.m., where Pradeepan was caught red-handed receiving the amount from a complainant. According to C.M. Varghese, Deputy SP of VACB Ernakulam, the complainant had approached the bureau after the official demanded Rs1.5 lakh to convert a temporary electricity connection to a permanent one at a newly constructed building in Panampilly Nagar.
Pradeepan N. is scheduled to be produced before court on Thursday. The case highlights ongoing vigilance against corruption within Kerala State Electricity Board operations.
