A 22-year-old delivery boy, Pradeep Adagale, died early Friday after being bludgeoned to death during a violent altercation at the Chandannagar vegetable market late Thursday night. The fatal attack reportedly stemmed from a long-standing eve-teasing dispute.
Adagale, a resident of Avhalwadi in Wagholi, sustained critical head injuries after being struck with a cement slab. He was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries around 3:30 am on Friday.
Following the incident, the Chandannagar police arrested Sunita Kakade (38) and her son Rushi Kakade (24). A 16-year-old boy, a friend of Rushi, has also been detained. Additionally, two more individuals have been booked in connection with the murder.
According to Senior Inspector Seema Dhakne, the motive for the killing was linked to Adagale’s alleged habit of eve-teasing a woman from the Kakade family over the past year. Despite repeated warnings, tensions escalated.
“An altercation broke out between the two sides, and during the confrontation, members of the Kakade family attacked Adagale and struck him fatally with a slab,” Inspector Dhakne confirmed.
The case has shocked the local community and raised concerns over rising street violence tied to personal disputes. Police investigations are ongoing.
