The Rural Police in Trimbakeshwar arrested two men on charges of murder after a 52-year-old man, Prabhakar Ghote, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Ghote, whose saffron robes were visible, was discovered on Monday near the Sri Swami Samartha Centre.
Initially, the police registered the incident as an accidental death, but upon reviewing CCTV footage, they found that the previous night, between 8.30pm and 9pm, two men were seen quarreling with Ghote. The footage revealed that Ghote had been beaten by the men, causing him to fall and die at the scene.
Based on this evidence, the police changed the case to murder and began further investigation. Within hours, an informant tipped the police about the suspects’ identities. They were identified as Walu Kasbe and Ajay Dattu Game, who were subsequently arrested.
When questioned, both suspects confessed to the crime, explaining that Ghote, after a quarrel, had abused them and tried to beat them up. Angered by his actions, the suspects punched Ghote, which ultimately caused his death. They fled the scene afterward.
SP Vikram Deshmane and Additional SP Aditya Mirkhelkar visited the location and directed a thorough investigation, leading to the swift arrest of the suspects within 12 hours of the FIR being filed.
