The Powai police have launched a manhunt for three men accused of duping an Indore-based businessman of Rs 41 lakh in a gold scam. The complainant, Piyush Gupta, revealed that his friend was promised gold biscuits at a rate below the market price, which led to the deal in Mumbai.
During the cash handover for the supposed gold, three men arrived in an Innova car, allegedly assaulted Gupta’s friends, and fled with a bag containing the cash. The accused — Amit Jain, Rajesh Jain, Shubhash, and others — have been booked under Sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the BNS Act.
Gupta, 48, who runs an import-export garment business in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, said his friends Nadeem Khan (Andheri) and Nasir Khan (Bandra) contacted him last month, claiming to know someone supplying gold at 10% below market price.
In the first week of September, Gupta traveled to Mumbai and was introduced to a woman named Vaishali Samant and a man identified as Manoj Dhulia, who allegedly orchestrated the scam.
Police continue their search to apprehend the accused and recover the stolen amount.
