Mumbai: The Powai police arrested two men, Akshay Baresa and Shubhan Singh, from Andheri East for allegedly assaulting a 36-year-old carpenter, Puran Mukhiya, and robbing him of Rs10,000 last Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 3 pm near Heera Panna mall, when Mukhiya was walking to work. Two men on a motorcycle intercepted him, assaulted him, threatened to kill him, and forced him to hand over the cash he was carrying. The assailants then fled the scene, leaving Mukhiya injured.

Following the attack, Mukhiya filed a complaint with Powai police. Investigation of CCTV footage revealed the motorcycle used by the accused, including its number plate. This led officers to the bike’s owner, Akshay Baresa, a resident of MIDC Adivasi Prajapur Pada, Andheri East.

Baresa was arrested and confessed to the crime. His accomplice, Shubhan Singh, was also apprehended from his residence. Police recovered the stolen cash and other evidence from the duo.

An officer from Powai police station said, “We will produce them before the court on Monday.” The police also noted that both accused already had previous cases registered against them at MIDC police station.
