MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas —
A U.S. Postal Service employee has been arrested following an investigation into the theft and alteration of a $44,000 city check, according to the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.
The case began in July 2024 when a Woodbranch Village city official reported that a check sent to a contractor had been stolen in transit, altered, and deposited into an unknown account.
After a months-long investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 40-year-old Bridgette Ragland of Houston, who was employed by the U.S. Postal Service.
An arrest warrant was issued for theft, a third-degree felony, and on October 9, 2025, Ragland was taken into custody at her workplace — a post office in northwest Houston.
Constable Rowdy Hayden credited investigators and the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General for their cooperation and assistance in solving the case.
“Our investigators worked hard on this case, making sure the suspect was held accountable for stealing from a local municipality,” said Constable Hayden.
Ragland remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
