COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus woman, Portia Martin, was arrested Friday after allegedly fatally stabbing and beating an 82-year-old man, according to court records.
The Columbus Division of Police reported that officers responded around 9:25 a.m. to a home on the 2600 block of Caralee Place in northeast Columbus following a report of a deceased individual. Upon arrival, James Simpson Sr. was found lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood and was pronounced dead at 9:34 a.m.
Martin, 55, was located at the scene and detained. Court documents indicate she admitted to being involved in an altercation with Simpson Sr. An affidavit states that during the fight, she stabbed and repeatedly beat him, resulting in his death.
Martin is being held in the Franklin County Jail and is scheduled for arraignment at 9 a.m. Saturday.
