by Ananya Mehta

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested Poornima (36), a director of a private firm, for cheating 91 people of Rs7 crore by falsely promising houses on lease in Selaiyur and Urapakkam, Chennai.

According to police, Poornima and another director, Thanga Durai (40), ran a private firm that appeared legitimate, employing two managers, Nalini and Malar. The group allegedly entered into agreements with a few landowners to rent properties, then forged documents and advertised the houses for lease, collecting around Rs10 lakh from each victim in 2024.

The victims later discovered that the lease agreements were fake. Based on multiple complaints, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) registered a case and launched an investigation. Acting on leads, officers tracked and arrested Poornima, while efforts are ongoing to locate her accomplices.
