The Gurugram police have arrested a woman, Poonam (44), and her paramour, Mankhush (25), for allegedly attacking her husband with an axe-like tool at Khoh village, officials said on Thursday.
Police received reports about a man being seriously injured near a school in the village. Responding teams found the victim, Shiv Shankar, had been rushed to ESIC hospital in Faridabad, where doctors declared him unfit to give a statement.
Shiv Shankar, a resident of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, works in Manesar and resides in Khoh with his wife. The couple, married since 2012, has a son. The case was initiated after a complaint was filed by the victim’s sister-in-law.
According to police, Shiv Shankar had discovered Poonam’s affair with Mankhush, a colleague at his workplace, which reportedly led to frequent domestic disputes. On Tuesday, Poonam allegedly lured her husband to the Jharna temple. While returning on a scooter, their vehicle was pushed near VPS School, causing them to fall.
Mankhush then restrained Shankar from behind while Poonam struck him multiple times on the face with an axe-like tool, leaving him critically injured. The accused fled the scene.
Following the complaint, the IMT Manesar police registered an attempt-to-murder case. Both Poonam and Mankhush were arrested on Thursday.
A police spokesperson said, “During interrogation, the accused confessed to a six-month-long relationship. They admitted that the attack was premeditated due to escalating disputes over the affair.”
Authorities continue to investigate the incident as Shankar recovers from his injuries.
