A police driver attached to Mehdipatnam police station, Sravan Kumar, has been arrested for allegedly stealing a mobile phone from seized property. Although the case was officially registered on Saturday, the theft took place on 25 November.
Inspector Ram Babu discovered the missing phone while checking the seized property related to a theft case. Staff reviewing CCTV footage found that cameras had been disconnected, and the hard drive contained no recordings. Investigators also noted that the main connecting wire had been cut, and the hard disk was physically damaged.
When the damaged disk was examined by a hardware technician, the last visuals retrieved revealed that Sravan Kumar had entered the police station at night while other staff were occupied. He reportedly entered the inspector’s room, bolted the door from the inside, and disconnected the CCTV connections before damaging the hard disk to cover his tracks.
Sravan Kumar has been charged with trespassing and damaging public property and has been taken into police custody.
