In a significant anti-drug operation, Sirsa police successfully seized 1,548 kg of poppy husk during a joint crackdown led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Ellenabad and CIA Ellenabad incharge, Inspector Dharmveer.
The large consignment was intercepted in a canter truck near Ding police station area. Two accused, Saddam Hussain and Nadar Khan, were arrested, while two others managed to escape. Authorities said the bust dismantled an inter-state drug smuggling network.
Inspector Dharmveer revealed that the operation was initiated following a tip-off from the Saharanpur Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Uttar Pradesh. PSI Ravi Kumar informed Sirsa police about two men transporting poppy husk from Rajasthan through Ding Mandi to Bathinda in Punjab.
Acting on this intelligence, the CIA team led by ASI Prahlad Singh set up a checkpoint near Patli Dabar bus stand on Ding road. Around 4 am, a truck was stopped, and although the suspects tried to flee, they were immediately apprehended.
The driver, Saddam Hussain, is a resident of Mewatipura, Mandsaur (MP), and currently residing in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan. His accomplice, Nadar Khan, is also from Pratapgarh.
Due to heavy traffic on the highway, the vehicle was taken to the police station for inspection, where officers found seventy-seven bags containing poppy husk valued at over Rs 1 crore.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and police raids continue to apprehend the other accused involved in the smuggling ring.
