by Ananya Mehta

Ludhiana police have dismantled a gang involved in stealing goods from hosiery units and factories, arresting four individuals and recovering stolen items, a vehicle used in the crimes, and a large quantity of illicit liquor. The operation was spearheaded by Sub-Inspector Bhupinder Singh, SHO of Moti Nagar police station, under the guidance of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police-4 Jashandeep Singh Gill and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Industrial Area-A) Inderjit Singh Boparai. The crackdown was part of a focused effort to curb recurring thefts across industrial zones.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Tarun Kapoor alias Lucky, Saman Singh, Ramandeep Singh alias Jassu, and Tanveer Malik. Police confirmed that two more suspects mentioned in the FIR remain at large. The investigation began following a complaint from Gagandeep Singh, owner of a hosiery factory in Amar Nagar, Sherpur, leading to an FIR on December 25 against six accused allegedly conducting reconnaissance at hosiery units before committing planned thefts.

During the probe, officers recovered 16 bags of stolen hosiery material from the four arrested individuals. Additionally, a Mahindra Bolero pickup used to transport stolen goods was seized, providing strong evidence linking the suspects to multiple thefts in industrial areas.

Further investigations uncovered 30 cartons of illicit liquor—totaling 1,440 quarters—on accused Tarun Kapoor, who faces additional charges under the Excise Act. Kapoor, a habitual offender, has approximately 24 criminal cases registered against him across various Ludhiana police stations, making him a prominent figure in organized theft operations.

Police stated that interrogations are ongoing, with expectations of further disclosures regarding other thefts and the wider criminal network. Efforts are underway to locate and arrest the remaining accused, and additional stolen property may be recovered based on new leads.
