The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) arrested Piyush Ranjan, the district fisheries officer of Bettiah, on Monday for allegedly accepting a Rs1 lakh bribe. He was caught red-handed while taking money from a beneficiary of a government fish farming subsidy scheme.

According to Vigilance DSP Pawan Kumar, the arrest came after a complaint was filed by Murad Anwar, a resident of Pakhnaha village in Bairiya block. Anwar alleged that Ranjan had demanded 10% of the approved subsidy amount in return for releasing the funds.

“The complaint was submitted on August 11. Following verification, our team conducted an investigation and set up a trap. The officer was apprehended while accepting the bribe,” said DSP Kumar.

Ranjan is currently being interrogated and will be transferred to Patna for further investigation after procedural formalities are completed.
