Indore police have arrested 25-year-old MBA student Piyush Dhanotiyah in connection with the murder of his girlfriend following a dispute. On Sunday, he was produced before court and sent on three days’ police remand.
Police conducted a reconstruction of the crime scene at the accused’s rented accommodation in Dwarkapuri. According to DCP Krishna Lalchandani, Piyush fled Indore via train on February 10 after committing the murder and later moved around Mumbai on local trains and metros before being apprehended by authorities in Andheri.
Investigators stated that an argument with the victim escalated, leading to her being strangled. After the incident, the accused sent a disturbing message from her phone to her sister, causing concern among family and friends. Police also recovered objectionable videos shared by the accused in a college group and circulated on the victim’s WhatsApp contacts.
Neighbours alerted authorities when the room remained locked for days. Police entry on February 13 revealed the victim’s body. Using inputs from common contacts, digital footprints, and assistance from Andheri Police Station (Mumbai Zone 10), authorities successfully traced and arrested Piyush Dhanotiyah.
