New Delhi: A mother-daughter duo, Pinki (42) and Poonam (22), has been arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly stealing jewellery from a residence in Shrichand Park, Matiyala, and selling it in melted form.
The arrests were made by a team from Bindapur Police Station, operating under Dwarka District DCP Ankit Singh. The investigation led to the recovery of 5.23 grams of melted gold and 589.15 grams of melted silver from a local shop identified through the suspects.
The complaint, filed by a woman named Ishika on August 1, claimed unknown persons had stolen jewellery from her house. Despite no signs of forced entry or broken locks, CCTV footage failed to show any suspicious entries or exits. This raised suspicions internally.
Further questioning of the tenants in the house revealed the culprits: Pinki and her daughter Poonam, both residents of Uttam Nagar, Delhi. During interrogation, they confessed to entering the house through the ventilator and stealing the jewellery.
The stolen items were traced to a nearby jewellery shop, where the gold and silver had already been melted. Based on the suspects’ information, the police team recovered the stolen metal from the shopkeeper.
The case was registered under e-FIR No. 80071435/25, U/s-305 BNS, and the investigation is ongoing. Further details are awaited.
