The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police’s Crime Branch Unit-4 successfully apprehended three suspects involved in a robbery targeting two elderly women at knifepoint. Officials recovered stolen items worth Rs 14.17 lakh, including 127 grams of gold jewellery and the car used in the crime.
The arrested individuals are Abasaheb Ankush Madane (35, Dehu Road), Kailas Pandurang Tonape (32, Dighi), and Vaibhav Janardan Suryatal (30, Ravet).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Dr. Shivaji Pawar, detailed the incident that occurred on September 7. The suspects offered a ride to two elderly women traveling to Mumbai, misleading them into their red Honda City car under the pretense of assistance. From Wakad Bridge to the new Katraj Tunnel, the trio threatened the victims with a knife and forcibly took 127 grams of gold jewellery, including a chain, bangles, and a ring, valued at Rs 8.47 lakh. The case was registered at Hinjawadi Police Station.
Using technical analysis and a tip-off, the Crime Branch tracked down the suspects in the Walhekarwadi area on Thursday and seized the stolen items along with the vehicle.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, with leadership from JCP Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional CP Sarang Awhad, DCP Dr. Shivaji Pawar, and ACP Dr. Vishal Hire. The Crime Branch Unit-4 team was led by Sr PI Arvind Pawar.
