NEWTON, N.C. — Newton Police officers arrested a Cherryville man Saturday in connection with multiple criminal offenses filed across two counties, according to law enforcement records.

The suspect, Phillip Todd Francis, 30, was taken into custody on January 3. Authorities said Francis faces several charges in Catawba County, including identity theft, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while license revoked.

In addition to the Catawba County charges, Francis is also charged in Gaston County with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, officials confirmed.

Following his arrest, Francis was booked into the Catawba County Detention Facility, where he is being held under a $10,000 secured bond.

Court records indicate Francis was scheduled to appear in Newton District Court on Monday, January 5, with a separate Catawba County District Court appearance set for January 27.

As with all criminal cases, the charges listed are allegations only. Phillip Todd Francis is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
