by Sophia Bennett

The Ithaca Police Department reports the arrest of 35-year-old Phillip Lewis, a city resident, following a bicycle traffic stop early Saturday morning.

Around 3:40 a.m., officers stopped a bicyclist in the 100 block of West Clinton Street for traffic violations. During the stop, officers observed what appeared to be a handgun in the front pouch of Lewis’s sweatshirt.

Lewis was taken into custody without incident, and the weapon was later determined to be an imitation handgun.

He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a Class D felony. Lewis was arraigned in Ithaca City Court before Judge Peacock and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail.
