NORRISTOWN — A Philadelphia man pleaded guilty to methamphetamine trafficking charges after his arrest during an investigation into a theft at a local Walmart store. Stephen John Devlin, 45, of Hill Road, admitted to a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine in connection with a March 2024 incident.
Devlin’s sentencing has been deferred by Judge Risa Vetri Ferman to allow time for a background investigation report. He remains in county jail without bail until his sentencing hearing.
The investigation began on March 20, 2024, when West Norriton police responded to a report of a man stealing a robot vacuum from a Walmart at 650 S. Trooper Road. Devlin fled the scene in a light blue Ford Taurus. Officers soon spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, identifying Devlin as the driver. Upon questioning, Devlin admitted to stealing the vacuum.
When Devlin was removed from the vehicle, police discovered two bags of crystal methamphetamine and, upon further inspection, additional drugs and prescription pills. A warrant was obtained to search the vehicle, leading to the seizure of three separate bags of methamphetamine weighing a total of 148 grams, which police deemed inconsistent with personal use.
The packaging of the drugs—clear sandwich baggies—indicated the meth was likely intended for sale, as opposed to individual consumption.
At the time of sentencing, charges including retail theft, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and drug paraphernalia possession will be dismissed. Devlin’s case highlights the serious penalties associated with drug trafficking in the region.
