RARITAN TWP., N.J. — Two Raritan Township residents have been arrested and charged in a wide-ranging criminal case involving forgery, identity theft, motor vehicle theft, and child endangerment, according to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renee Robeson.
Peter M. Gittens, 37, and Chambreona J. Williams, 33 — also known as Tenisha O. Gittens — are facing multiple felony charges including:
Forgery
Trafficking in personal identifying information
Theft of a motor vehicle
Theft of movable property
Unlawful possession of a firearm
Endangering the welfare of a child
The investigation began in January, when Raritan Township Police were alerted to a stolen U-Haul van, which was later traced to Williams and Gittens. Authorities determined that Williams had fraudulently obtained the vehicle and that both individuals had leased apartment units using false identities.
On April 4, the Clinton Township Police Department conducted a traffic stop and detained both suspects. Search warrants were subsequently executed on their residences and vehicle. During the search, police found Williams’ two young children, aged 5 and 2, left unsupervised inside the apartment.
Prosecutor Robeson stated that the search revealed a trove of evidence including:
Multiple fake IDs and credit cards
Over $75,000 in stolen U.S. Treasury checks
An illegal credit card skimming device
An unregistered handgun
High-capacity magazines
Two stolen cockapoo dogs
Gittens is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior conviction.
Following a pretrial detention motion, Williams was released to pretrial monitoring on April 11. She is scheduled to appear for a pre-indictment hearing on May 19 before the Hon. Christopher J. Garrenger, J.S.C.
Gittens remains detained at the Warren County Jail and is scheduled to appear before Judge Garrenger on May 12.
