Pernem Police have made a major breakthrough in a house burglary case registered at the Pernem Police Station under Crime No. 02/2026, booked under Sections 331(3) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The arrest has further exposed an organised day house-breaking gang operating across several parts of North Goa.

The case was registered following a complaint by Nilima Gawde (56), a resident of Gaonkarwada, Tuem, Pernem. She reported that on February 5, 2025, between 9 am and 5.30 pm, unknown persons broke open the main door lock of her house and stole a gold mangalsutra weighing about 42 grams, valued at approximately Rs4.50 lakh, from a bedroom cupboard.

Acting on sustained technical surveillance, ground intelligence, and leads emerging from previous arrests, Pernem Police arrested Tejesh Gurav (28) on January 7, 2026, at around 10.13 pm. Gurav is a resident of Malpem, Virnoda, Pernem, and a native of Rajapur in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra. Police confirmed that all Supreme Court arrest guidelines were strictly followed.

Investigations revealed that Gurav is a close associate of prime accused Rohan Mahadev Padwal, who was earlier arrested along with Jagannath alias Ketan Sanjay Bagkar in Crime No. 62/2025 of Pernem Police Station. The accused are believed to be habitual offenders involved in multiple day house-breaking and theft cases in Pernem, Dhargal, Virnoda, Tuem, and Korgao areas.

In related cases, police have already recovered gold and silver ornaments worth approximately Rs17.56 lakh. Cumulatively, recoveries made during investigations across various burglary cases have reached around Rs53.68 lakh.

With the latest seizures, the total recovery of stolen gold ornaments linked to the organised burglary network has now risen to approximately Rs71.24 lakh. Further investigation is ongoing to trace additional stolen property and identify other members of the gang.

The arrested accused has been produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Pernem, and police custody has been sought for further custodial interrogation.

The investigation is being conducted by PSI Tukaram Chodankar under the supervision of PI Pernem Police Station Nitin Halarnkar, SDPO Pernem Salim Shaikh, and overall supervision of SP North District, Porvorim, Harishchandra Madkaikar.
