pernem police have arrested two habitual burglars, Rohan Padwal (29) of Pernem and Jagannath Ketan Bagkar (20) of Ramnagar, in connection with a string of burglaries across Pernem taluka since December 2024. The operation led to the recovery of stolen property worth approximately Rs 53.68 lakh.
The investigation began when Anil Kambli of Tuem-Pernem reported that his house was burgled on August 12 between 8 am and 12 noon. Gold ornaments and cash of Rs 22,000, totaling around Rs 8 lakh, were stolen.
Acting on reliable intelligence, a police team led by PI Nitin Halarnkar apprehended the suspects on December 26. During subsequent investigations:
On December 27, gold ornaments worth Rs 21.48 lakh were recovered from financial company branches in Pernem and Dhargal.
On December 28, laptops worth Rs 1.2 lakh and additional gold/silver ornaments worth Rs 18 lakh were recovered from Padwal’s residence.
On December 29, further gold ornaments worth Rs 14.2 lakh were recovered from the Colvale branch of a nationalized bank and goldsmiths in Panaji and Mapusa.
The accused were presented before the JMFC Pernem and remanded to seven days in police custody.
Police investigations revealed that Padwal and Bagkar had been carrying out a series of burglaries across Pernem, Dhargal, Virnoda, Tuyem, and Korgao since December 2024. Various cases have been registered in connection with these incidents.
Additionally, police seized a grinder cutter machine, two scooters, and three mobile phones used to commit the crimes. The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of Pernem PI Nitin Halarnkar, Pernem SDPO Salim Shaikh, and North Goa SP Harishchandra Madkaikar.
