DES MOINES, Iowa – Bryce Douglas Murphy, 33, of Peosta, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to insurance fraud and fraudulent practice.

Murphy had claimed that two Rolex watches were stolen from his hotel room while attending an NFL game. He submitted various documents, including a purchase receipt for the watches, to an insurance company for a claim. However, investigators discovered Murphy had filed a similar claim back in 2019 with a different company, receiving nearly $10,000 in payout.

Upon further investigation, authorities found that the Rolex watches were counterfeit and that the receipt Murphy provided was fabricated. Murphy was arrested on June 12, 2023, and after pleading guilty, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay $2,395 in fines.

The case highlights the serious consequences of insurance fraud and the importance of accurate reporting in claims.
