BRAINERD, Minn. — A 63-year-old Long Prairie woman with a history of theft convictions in Minnesota was arrested Thursday, Feb. 5, after allegedly stealing more than $1,200 worth of merchandise from a Brainerd business over the course of more than two hours.
Pennie Kay Dubbin was charged Feb. 6 in Crow Wing County District Court with one count of felony theft. She was assigned a public defender and given bail conditions of $25,000, or $50,000 without conditions. Dubbin is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 17 and remains in custody at the Crow Wing County Jail as of Feb. 11.
Court documents state that Dubbin entered Ace Hardware, 214 West Washington St., at 3:50 p.m. on Feb. 4 and left nearly three hours later, around 6:48 p.m., with multiple stolen items. Security footage reportedly showed her placing merchandise into a large black bag attached to her cart. One item alone, a Milwaukee battery, was valued at approximately $229.99. The total value of the stolen items was $1,218.78.
Dubbin was convicted in Morrison County of gross misdemeanor theft on Feb. 4, 2026—just over two hours before the Ace Hardware incident. She also has prior felony theft convictions from Sept. 29, 2025, in Hennepin County, and March 6, 2025, in Stearns County. Additional theft charges are pending against her in Washington, Douglas, and Stearns counties.
