In a significant anti-drug operation, the Triplicane police arrested two individuals on charges of trafficking pseudoephedrine, a controlled substance commonly used in the illegal manufacture of narcotic and psychotropic drugs.
Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) coordinated with Triplicane police to monitor suspicious movements at Lal Begam Street junction on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The operation led to the arrest of Peer Mohammed (46) of Triplicane and Syed Jalaludin (49) of Chepauk.
During the search, officers seized 2 kilograms of pseudoephedrine, estimated to be worth Rs2 crore in the illegal drug market. Police confirmed that further investigations are underway to identify and arrest other suspects involved in the wider peddling network.
Authorities emphasized the severity of trafficking controlled precursors like pseudoephedrine, which are often linked to large-scale drug manufacturing operations.
