In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested two individuals on Tuesday with 6.5 kilograms of opium, estimated to be worth around Rs32.5 lakh.
The arrested accused were identified as Pawan Singh, a resident of Bareilly, and Khushbu, hailing from Bihar. Officials stated that the arrests were part of an operation targeting an inter-state narcotics network.
During interrogation, Singh revealed that he was part of a gang trafficking opium from Bihar and Jharkhand to other parts of the country. The gang’s operations were allegedly headed by Netrapal, who is believed to be the kingpin managing the drug flow across state lines.
Khushbu, according to officials, was delivering the latest consignment from Bihar and had been involved in similar deliveries in the past. Both individuals have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Authorities are continuing investigations to locate and arrest other members of the gang, including Netrapal.
