Indore police have arrested three individuals in connection with the recent Rs9.5 lakh robbery of an elderly utensil trader, Babulal, in the Aerodrome area. The suspects—Pavan alias Baba, son of Dagadu (Ram Kamal Residency, Gandhi Nagar), Lal, son of Kishan (Pandharinath), and Akhilesh, son of Munnalal (Model Village Colony)—were apprehended after a week-long investigation.
According to DCP Vinod Meena, the trio targeted Babulal, who regularly transported large sums of money with his son Lalit for their business on Sanwer Road. All three accused were familiar with the area and worked as loading vehicle drivers nearby. They identified Babulal as an easy target due to his age and routine.
The incident occurred as Babulal was returning home after collecting Rs9.5 lakh from traders. While riding his scooter near the Rokadia Hanuman Temple, the accused intercepted him. One suspect physically attacked him, another grabbed the scooter keys, opened the storage compartment (dicky), and fled with the cash—despite traffic on the road, no one intervened.
DCP Meena’s team analyzed footage from over 200 CCTV cameras, questioned known criminals, and worked closely with informants. Eventually, they obtained clear visuals of the suspects and the scooter’s license plate, leading to their arrest. Police also recovered a scooter and part of the stolen money.
Investigations are ongoing to check the criminal backgrounds of the accused. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for robbery.
