Udupi police arrested a 22-year-old youth, Pavan Acharya from Kaup, for allegedly sharing communal and provocative posts on social media following the Suhas Shetty murder in 2025.
City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH stated that a case was registered at Kankanady Town police station under Sections 353(1), 353(2), 61(2), and 55 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During the investigation, police traced the posts to a social media account named ‘TN-Maddy.’
Acting on this lead, officers arrested Pavan Acharya on Wednesday. He was produced before court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
Authorities also revealed that a separate case is registered against Acharya at Kaup police station for posting similar communal content on social media, which is still under investigation. Police emphasized that spreading provocative material online, especially after violent incidents, is being treated as a serious offense.
