Brooklyn Man Faces Felony Charges After Attempting Bank Fraud

by Amelia Crawford

Paul Winston, 34, from Brooklyn, New York, was arrested on October 21 for attempting to open bank accounts using fake identification at several locations in New Hampshire. Winston’s actions were initially reported at TD Bank on North Main Street in Concord, where he tried to use multiple fraudulent IDs to gain access to accounts.

The suspect was caught attempting to use different names and fake documents at several banks in the Bedford and Manchester areas. When approached by bank employees, Winston went to the restroom, but officers arrived and began questioning him upon his return. The police were provided with a Ghanaian passport, an international driving permit, and a utility bill that did not match the provided information.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Winston had been living in Concord for two years after moving from Boston. However, he had no valid New Hampshire ID or Social Security card, which raised further suspicions. The man provided conflicting information, claiming to be 32 years old despite his passport indicating he was 34. He also gave vague answers about his employment and residence.

The investigation revealed that Winston had used similar fraudulent IDs at other banks. After a thorough search, his true identity was uncovered as Paul Winston, and he was charged with felony identity fraud, possession of false identification, and other related offenses.

Authorities also seized Winston’s phone, and a detective applied for a search warrant for further investigation. He was processed and held in police custody, facing serious charges for his attempted fraud.
