A man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred over the weekend in Grand Junction, Colorado, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said deputies responded around 6:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of a robbery in the 2900 block of Orchard Avenue in Grand Junction. Investigators say the suspect allegedly held a victim at gunpoint, stole several belongings, and then fled the scene in a vehicle.
Deputies, working with officers from the Grand Junction Police Department, later located a green Jeep believed to be connected to the crime near the intersection of 17th Street and Elm Avenue. Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and negotiated with the driver for about 10 minutes before he exited the vehicle.
The suspect, identified as Paul Lucero, 24, was taken into custody without further incident.
During a search of the vehicle, investigators said they recovered a stolen firearm along with property reported stolen from the victim. Lucero was subsequently booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility.
Lucero faces numerous charges, including felony robbery with a weapon, theft of a firearm, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, harassment, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, and several misdemeanor offenses.
Authorities said they are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the child abuse and delinquency of a minor charges. Officials have not yet released details about how a minor may have been involved in the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
