TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) — A Topeka man has been formally charged in connection with a deadly stabbing that occurred in east Topeka earlier this month.
Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay announced that 36-year-old Paul J. Gladney Jr. has been charged with second-degree intentional murder. The charge stems from an incident on April 23 that resulted in the death of 48-year-old Donald C. Eteeyan, also of Topeka.
Topeka Police responded to the area near SE Second Street and SE California Avenue in the early hours of April 23 after receiving a report of a stabbing. Officers found Eteeyan at the scene with critical injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators quickly identified Gladney as the primary suspect. According to authorities, all individuals involved knew each other. Gladney was located by officers the following day, April 24, in the 500 block of SW Lincoln Avenue. He was taken into custody for questioning and subsequently booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.
Gladney remains in custody with bond set at $1 million. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the Topeka Police Department directly.
