Paul Doyle Denies 31 Charges in Liverpool Car Incident
A man accused of deliberately driving into crowds during Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade has pleaded not guilty to 31 criminal charges.
Paul Doyle, 53, a former Royal Marine Commando, is alleged to have used his Ford Galaxy as a weapon, injuring more than 130 people — including eight children and two babies — on Water Street in Liverpool City Centre on 26 May.
Appearing via videolink from prison at Liverpool Crown Court, Doyle denied all charges, which include causing grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving.
Doyle, of Burghill Road in West Derby, Liverpool, is accused of intentionally targeting football fans as they celebrated the city’s football triumph.
His defence team expressed frustration over difficulties accessing their client in custody. Simon Csoka KC stated: “The system just isn’t working,” referring to delays in prison visit and videolink access.
The case is ongoing.
