Patricia Lamb Sentenced for Clay County Credit Fraud

Former election director gets probation for theft

by Sophia Bennett

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Patricia “Patty” Lamb, a former Clay County Republican election director, has been sentenced to five years of supervised probation for fraudulent use of a credit device.

Court documents indicate Lamb stole more than $15,000 from the Clay County Election Board between 2021 and 2024. This includes $8,126 in non-business-related and undocumented credit card charges, $1,336 in unsupported mileage reimbursements, $200 in petty cash, and $6,278.40 from two unexplained payroll checks.

The fraud came to light in September 2023 when an Election Board member noticed Lamb had made charges on her business credit card unrelated to office work. She was placed on leave a month later, and Fox Forensic Accounting conducted a detailed audit of her expenses, credit card statements, and payroll. Lamb was terminated in January 2024.

After failing to appear in court in fall 2024, a warrant was issued for her arrest. Authorities believed she might have left the area or state. She was later taken into custody in Belgrade, Montana, by local police in coordination with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. It is unclear why Lamb was in Montana at the time of her arrest on February 19.

Lamb had pleaded guilty in August to fraudulent use of a credit or debit device. The original charge of stealing $750 or more was dismissed as part of her plea agreement.
