Patna police, along with the STF’s Narcotics Cell, have dismantled a major inter-state drug racket, arresting four smugglers and recovering over 40 kilograms of opium worth approximately Rs4 crore.
The operation, led by Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma and supervised by East SP Parijhay Kumar and Sadar DSP-2 Ranjan Kumar, was based on a tip-off about a large consignment being transported in a green auto-rickshaw to Kachhuara village under Gopalpur police station limits.
The arrested smugglers include Mukesh Kumar from Nalanda, Ajit Kumar (39) from Bokaro, Jharkhand, Shrawan Kumar (22) from Chatra, Jharkhand, and Jayram Bharti (26) from Chatra, Jharkhand.
During the raid, police recovered 40.178 kg of opium, 2.270 kg of poppy husk, 88.81 kg of doda-pati powder, Rs6,62,900 in cash, six mobile phones, an electronic weighing scale, a 4HP mixer machine, two motorcycles, an auto-rickshaw, and crucial bank and land documents, including a fixed deposit worth Rs40 lakh.
The main accused, Mukesh Kumar, confessed to running this network for the past 10 years, sourcing opium from Gaya in Jharkhand and supplying it to Punjab and other states.
Police said the bust highlights the ongoing vigilance against narcotics trafficking and a focused effort to curb the inter-state drug supply chain.
