by Sophia Bennett

A convicted felon, Pascual Herrera Carlos, 53, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the attempted murder of his mother in 2022, according to Riverside County prosecutors. Carlos admitted to charges of attempted murder, elder abuse, and enhancing allegations related to using a deadly weapon during the felony and causing great bodily injury.

The incident occurred on September 28, 2022, when Riverside County deputies responded to a 911 call at a home on the 300 block of S. Kirby Street in San Jacinto. Carlos had gotten into a violent confrontation with his 68-year-old mother, which escalated into a stabbing. He grabbed a knife and stabbed her multiple times, leaving her with severe wounds.

Carlos fled the scene after the attack, but his mother was able to call 911 before she was rushed to the hospital by paramedics. Fortunately, she recovered from her injuries.

Carlos was arrested in November 2022 in San Diego County and was later transferred to Riverside County, where he has remained in custody since. Despite objections from prosecutors over the length of the sentence, Judge Jorge Hernandez imposed a 10-year prison term for Carlos.
