A woman and her son were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing Parminder Singh Dhingra, a prominent lawyer and president of the All India Sikh Student Federation (AISSF), in a shocking incident on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Parminder Kaur (46) and her son Bankim Sharma (22), reside in Dashmesh Nagar extension, opposite the victim’s residence. Bankim Sharma is a national-level shooter who recently took part in the Khelo India games.
According to police reports, the deadly incident followed a heated argument between the victim and the accused. Parminder Singh Dhingra was shot in the leg with a .22-caliber rifle, causing him to fall down the stairs at the accused’s home and sustain a fatal head injury.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa stated that the accused have been sent to police custody for four days as investigations continue. The exact motive remains unclear, and authorities are interrogating the accused for more details.
The case was registered based on a complaint from Ramandeep Kaur, wife of the deceased, under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Basti Bawa Khel police station.
Ramandeep’s FIR states that she had spoken to her husband around 2 pm when he said he was going to their neighbor’s house for some work. Around 3:30 pm, his phone was found switched off, and later he was discovered dead at the neighbor’s residence.
The police received information about the crime after 3 pm and rushed to the scene with forensic teams for investigation.
