Parents Arrested in Death of Missing Baby Emmanuel

Kidnapping claim ruled false, infant believed dead

CABAZON, Calif. — The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the arrest of Jake and Rebecca Haro on August 22, 2025, for the suspected murder of their 7-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro, following what was originally reported as a kidnapping in Yucaipa.

Authorities now say the kidnapping never occurred.

The investigation began eight days earlier when Rebecca Haro claimed her infant son was abducted in the parking lot of a Big 5 sporting goods store. However, during the course of the investigation, detectives uncovered multiple inconsistencies in her story and gathered evidence contradicting the initial claim.

“Based on the evidence, investigators determined a kidnapping in Yucaipa did not occur,” said the sheriff’s department in a public statement. “It is believed Emmanuel is deceased, and the search to recover his remains is ongoing.”

During the probe, detectives executed search warrants, analyzed digital and electronic evidence, and interviewed multiple individuals. A vehicle belonging to Jake Haro was also seized earlier in the week.

Reported sightings of Emmanuel in Kern County were investigated, but no credible leads have emerged. Authorities continue to search for the child’s remains and ask for public cooperation.

A family attorney, present at the Haros’ home on Friday, urged the public to remember the couple is “innocent until proven guilty.”
