EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Two parents in Indiana, Patrick Colbert and Jessica Colbert, have been arrested after their young child was found outside, naked, and filthy.
The incident occurred early on March 29 when deputies responded to a call at around 6:30 a.m. to Ohara Drive. Neighbors had discovered the child naked on their porch, with a strong smell emanating from her. When they picked her up, they found her to be unclean, and there appeared to be no supervision.
Upon investigation, deputies discovered the door to the Colberts’ home wide open. After knocking and announcing themselves several times, Patrick Colbert eventually answered. Deputies reported a strong urine smell coming from inside the home. Colbert allegedly told them that he thought his daughter was still sleeping in her room.
Further inspection revealed an open Department of Child Services (DCS) case from a similar incident in November 2024. The deputies found the house in disarray. A dirty diaper with dried feces was found on the way to the child’s room, where her bed was cluttered with toys, leaving no space for her to sleep.
Deputies also discovered that another child in the home had the same overwhelming odor as the younger one. Both children were removed from the residence, and one was treated at the hospital for bedbug bites.
The home was also filled with dangerous items within reach of the children, and visible cockroach activity was reported. As a result, both Patrick and Jessica Colbert were arrested and booked on charges of child neglect.
