Two individuals from a gang of around eight people, who posed as CBI officers to forcibly enter a businessman’s home and rob him of Rs2.3 crore, have been arrested, Delhi Police said on Thursday.

The robbery occurred on Tuesday evening at Vivek Vihar in Shahdara, where the victim, Manpreet, a property dealer and businessman, had stored cash from his operations. The accused not only looted the cash but also abducted two individuals from the house and later dropped them in North Delhi.

The arrested accused include:

Papori Barua (31) – believed to be the gang leader, originally from Assam, and operator of a fake NGO in Saket.

Deepak (32) – an associate, working at the NGO and residing in Tuglaqabad.

According to DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam, Manpreet claimed he had stored nearly Rs2.5 crore in the house from his business involving finance, commission, and construction. On Tuesday, he asked his friend Ravi Shankar to collect Rs1.1 crore and transport it to his other residence in Indirapuram.

As Shankar sat in the house with the cash, four people, including a woman, arrived in two Ertiga cars, identified themselves as CBI officers, and took him hostage along with another person. The gang later robbed them and dumped them in a different part of the city.

Police said that this was a pre-planned operation, and more arrests are expected as the remaining gang members are being traced.
