In a significant breakthrough in the Sonu Nolta murder investigation, Panchkula police arrested Jameel from Kutbewala village, Sector-20, Pinjore on July 16. He was produced in court and remanded to four days of police custody.
During interrogation, Jameel confessed to conspiring in the murder and admitted providing his vehicle to the prime accused, Piyush Piplani, to carry out the crime. Police hope his revelations will lead to crucial evidence and the swift arrest of other absconding suspects, including Piyush and Ankush.
Sonu Nolta, aged 32, from Nolta village in Pinjore, was killed outside Amravati Mall late on June 5. The police continue raids and investigations to apprehend the remaining accused based on leads developed from Jameel’s confession.
Separately, the local health department conducted a food safety drive inspecting five bakery units across the city producing fruit cakes, buns, rusks, and cream rolls. Three bakery owners were issued on-the-spot challans for unhygienic conditions.
Samples of various food items, including fruit cakes, cream, salt, cooking oils, milk cake, rusks, and cream rolls, were collected and sent to the state food laboratory for detailed testing. District Health Officer Dr. Amarjit Kaur emphasized strict action will be taken based on lab reports.
“Ensuring food safety is our top priority. No bakery will be allowed to compromise public health,” Dr. Kaur said. The food safety team reaffirmed its commitment to continuous monitoring and enforcement of food safety laws in Ludhiana.
