The Panaji police arrested three burglars from Uttar Pradesh involved in breaking into multiple shops across Panaji, thanks to sharp intelligence and Smart City CCTV footage.
On April 9, the burglars forced entry into the ‘W for Woman’ store at Ribeiro Building, stealing Rs 11,000, according to complainant Mayank Madiar. The next day, Rahim Virani of ‘Mansur Enterprise’ reported theft of Rs 1.5 lakh using the same modus operandi of bending shutters and breaking glass.
Prayot Vaigankar of ‘Aaradhya Wine Stores’ also reported the theft of Rs 3,470 in cash and a mobile phone worth Rs 10,000. Another Rs 5,000 was stolen from ‘Casa Barreto’ near the Panaji Municipal Garden.
Using CCTV footage and intelligence, Panaji police identified and arrested Mustakeen Dasna, Mohammad Hamed Musahid alias Gabaru, and Mohammad Chote. North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal credited the Panaji beat staff for tracking the accused to a bus they tried to escape on, with assistance from Kolhapur police to intercept and arrest them.
