PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A former chief financial officer has been sentenced for stealing more than $200,000 from an employee health care fund, federal authorities announced Wednesday.
Pamela J. Kahut, 68, of Wilsonville, served as CFO for the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) — a multistate agency responsible for managing Pacific Ocean fishery resources.
Between 2014 and 2020, Kahut stole $211,083.27 from the agency’s health benefit trust account, which funds health coverage and related fees for PSMFC employees.
Federal investigators revealed that Kahut used the stolen money to cover her spouse’s long-term care, pension loans, insurance premiums, and personal credit card bills.
Kahut pleaded guilty in June to Theft in Connection with Health Care. As part of her sentence:
She must repay the full amount stolen
She must pay an additional $10,000 fine
The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Department of Justice.
