Texas Woman Indicted for Allegedly Trying to Poison Ex-Husband with Fentanyl-Laced Chocolates
Pamela Jean Stanley, 63, from Coleman, Texas, has been indicted for an alleged murder plot in which she planned to send fentanyl-laced chocolates to her ex-husband under the guise of a congratulatory engagement gift.
According to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, Stanley was arrested in May after investigators learned she intended to inject powdered fentanyl into luxury chocolates and mail them to her ex-husband, Jeff Kauth. She aimed to disguise the package as a promotional gift from a travel agency offering a honeymoon incentive.
Authorities revealed that an undercover officer posed as a fentanyl supplier and met Stanley in a motel parking lot on May 30. After she attempted to acquire the drug, she was immediately arrested. At the time, she was also found in possession of 9.5 grams of methamphetamine.
Stanley now faces multiple charges, including criminal solicitation with intent to commit murder, attempted murder, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Her bond is set at $450,000.
Her ex-husband, Jeff Kauth, said he had raised concerns before about Stanley’s threats and even rumors of her attempting to hire a hitman. “It didn’t really surprise me,” Kauth told WFAA. “Her plan was pretty ingenious. She thought this stuff through.”
The couple was married for 14 years before divorcing in 2019. Fearing for his safety, Kauth had installed home security cameras and even created a decoy dummy to mislead any potential attacker.
Stanley is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on August 12, with her jury trial set for October 20.
