by Sophia Bennett

HAMILTON, ON — Pamela Ellis, a 44-year-old support worker employed by a Hamilton agency for people with developmental disabilities, has been charged with defrauding vulnerable clients out of $277,000.

The alleged scheme unfolded over two years, from December 15, 2022, to January 16, 2025. Ellis provided care for multiple residents of Community Living Hamilton and had authorized access to their bank accounts to assist with financial matters.

Police allege Ellis misused this access to divert a substantial amount of money for her personal gain.

Following a lengthy investigation, Hamilton police arrested Ellis and charged her with fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
