PALM DESERT, Calif. — A 37-year-old man from Palm Desert, Shayne Hiemstra, remained in custody on Tuesday after being arrested on suspicion of stolen vehicle, weapons-related offenses, and other charges.
According to a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, authorities responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 74000 block of Leslie Avenue around 4 p.m. on Monday. During their investigation, deputies located the stolen vehicle and detained Hiemstra, a local resident.
Further investigation, including a search warrant executed at Hiemstra’s residence, led to the discovery of illegal firearms, narcotics, and 3D printers. Authorities also found an unregistered firearm in a juvenile’s bedroom, prompting additional charges of child endangerment.
Hiemstra was arrested and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of several offenses, including possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of illegal firearms, possession of narcotics, and child endangerment.
