Police in Palghar, Maharashtra, arrested Salim Bagion (alias Sardar Chacha, 40) after seizing drugs valued at Rs 6.23 lakh from his possession, officials said on Sunday.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the police conducted a raid at Dhaniv Bagh in Nalasopara on December 4 and apprehended the accused. During the search, officers recovered brown sugar worth Rs 6 lakh and Nitrazepam tablets valued at Rs 23,628.
The accused, a habitual offender, has 12 previous cases, including three under the NDPS Act. He has been booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police have stated that investigations are ongoing to determine if he has links to other drug-related activities in the region.
