Paikmal police in Bargarh district have cracked a significant drug trafficking ring by arresting six individuals and seizing 2,598 injections of Pentazocine Lactate, a psychotropic substance regulated under the NDPS Act.
In addition to the drug vials, the police also confiscated a Xylo car, a Bullet bike, a scooter, and six mobile phones as part of the operation.

Acting on an intelligence tip-off, a special team intercepted a vehicle near Nishani Temple along the Padmapur–Paikmal stretch of the Biju Expressway. The suspected drug consignment was reportedly being transported from Bhubaneswar to western Odisha.
Preliminary investigations reveal that some accused have a criminal history. Umesh Sahu, for instance, is linked to multiple offenses including robbery and weapons possession.
The accused have been remanded to judicial custody pending further investigation.
Locals are alarmed by the growing presence of narcotics in rural areas, warning of increased antisocial activity. Community leaders are calling for stronger enforcement, sustained awareness campaigns, and tougher measures against trafficking networks.
