DES MOINES, Iowa — A 25-year-old man is in custody after a police pursuit Thursday afternoon ended with a PIT maneuver in Des Moines’ Beaverdale neighborhood, authorities said.

According to the Des Moines Police Department (DMPD), investigators with the Narcotics Control Section were in the area of 17th Street and University Avenue following up on a complaint about illegal narcotics activity.

Just after 4 p.m., investigators asked for uniformed officers to conduct a traffic stop on a truck. Police say the driver, Otis Crayton, refused to stop, prompting a vehicle pursuit.

Roughly 10 minutes later, officers used a precision immobilization technique (PIT maneuver) in the 4400 block of Franklin Avenue, successfully bringing the truck to a halt.

Crayton was taken into custody without incident, DMPD said.

Authorities confirmed that charges are pending as the investigation continues.
