CHICO, CA — A Pittsburg man was arrested Monday after allegedly stealing from a vehicle during a children’s Little League game at Chico Eastside Little League on Southgate Avenue.

According to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on June 23 when a victim attending the game noticed that an ice chest had been stolen from their vehicle. The victim located the suspect nearby and successfully retrieved the stolen item.

Authorities identified the suspect as Oscar Cardenas, 37, of Pittsburg. The victim provided a description to deputies, and a sergeant later found Cardenas on Entler Avenue. Officials confirmed Cardenas was on searchable probation.

During a search, officers reportedly found pepper spray and a baseball hat believed to have been taken from the Little League fields.

Due to two or more prior theft-related convictions, Cardenas was arrested under the enhanced sentencing guidelines of Proposition 36.
